The Long Road

Website day 08-11

Two website days in a row, and this one didn't reach the game at all — so there is no (game) line below, and that is the whole tag. What the site got instead is a signpost at its own trailhead: tonight, this week, the long way.

  • NEW: three horizons. The site could tell you what a run is and what a legacy is, and never once what next week is for. There's a rail on the front page now with three stops — tonight, this week, the long way — and an ember that walks to the one you pick, lighting the road behind it. Everything listed on it already ships; a horizon full of plans is just a promise.
  • NEW: a features page. The game in numbers, then the whole list in plain words. It had been hiding inside the press kit, where players kept finding it anyway — press kits are for press.
  • Crossroads got their own band. The stranger at her fork, Merrit on his bridge, and the third one named and nothing else. They're kept out of "the road's habits" on purpose: a one-in-fourteen meeting standing in a row with things that happen every single run misrepresents both of them.
  • Four new pictures, all drawn by the test suite — the drill ground, the fork, the bridge, and the whole dye rack rendered straight from the live catalogue, so a new dye redraws it on its own and the count can never go stale.
  • The imprint has had my own street misspelled since the day the site went up. Two umlauts, one of them on the wrong vowel.

Kept rough on purpose: the numbers on the features page are typed in by hand, unlike the picture that counts itself. A thirteenth hero turns 220 parties into 286, and somebody goes editing HTML.
